Prosthodontics typically consists of oro-facial rehabilitation by means of fixed prosthesis, removable prosthesis, and dental implants. We are committed to providing the highest standard of dental treatment available with utmost care. Our aim is to inspire confidence and trust that comes with an aesthetically and functionally restored, healthy smile. We further aim to pursue research of the highest international quality and to constantly improve on our teaching techniques and methods. Many of our staff members have undergone basic and advanced courses in Medical Education Technology. The faculty represents a large and diverse group committed to teaching, research, patient care and service.
The Department of Prosthodontics is one of the largest departments of the Institute. Teaching activity encompasses all the four years of dentistry comprising of teaching of Dental Materials Science, Pre-Clinical and Clinical Prosthodontics. The department conducts three university examinations in an academic year viz. Dental Material Science, Pre-clinical Prosthodontics (Second year) and Prosthodontics (Final year). The department offers comprehensive training for undergraduate students and enables them to deal with completely and partially edentulous patients. Pre-clinical training includes complete denture and removable partial denture construction on stone models, while the fixed partial denture exercises are performed on phantom heads. In the clinics the students are exposed to patients where they learn to perform the same procedures in the patient’s mouth under the guidance and supervision of qualified and experienced staff.
The department is self sufficient with ultra modern state of the art equipments in the clinics as well as in the laboratory. The latest materials and sound laboratory support makes it possible to treat patients of complete dentures, cast partial dentures, fixed crown and bridges, implant supported prosthesis, maxillofacial prosthesis and are managed by qualified staff. The synergy between dental materials and the specialty of Prosthodontics enhances learning in both areas.
