Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is the specialty of dentistry that deals with addressing the ailments of face and mouth. It encompasses the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases, deformities and injuries involving cosmetic and functional aspects of face and mouth. The scope of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery ranges from the removal of third molars (wisdom teeth) to the treatment of infections, dental implants, fracture of jaw bones and cancer of mouth etc. More than 1100 tooth extractions and 50-60 minor oral surgeries are successfully performed per month in our wellequipped department. We follow strict standards of aseptic protocol. It is no wonder that most of the students exceed MUHS quota of 100 dental extractions easily!
We take pride and pleasure to be associated with the independent Maxillofacial Surgery unit at Smt. Kashibai Navale Medical Hospital, Narhe. At this facility we have a state-of-art Operation Theatre of its own kind which complies with international standards. More than hundred major and supramajor surgeries of face and mouth are performed per year at this facility. We need not mention that our staff is highly qualified and of international competence. Our students posted at Smt. Kashibai Navale Medical Hospital, Narhe also get wide exposure to the variety of surgeries like complicated jaw fractures arising out of accidents, TM-Joint ankylosis, serious infections, sinus surgeries, submucous fibrosis, oral cancers etc.
Students are taught to develop abilities to make clinical judgements using evidence-based diagnosis and treatment planning. Emphasis is placed on development of skills and expertise in extractions and minor oral surgical procedures including trans-alveolar extractions.
